This technology makes use of high-activity, 12×40 mesh catalytic, granular activated carbon that is produced by steam-activating specific coconut shell charcoal. This activated carbon is very successful in removing hydrogen sulfide and chloramines from drinking water because of its catalytic activity. It is especially well adapted for the reduction of low molecular weight organic molecules and their chlorinated by-products, such as chloroform and other trihalomethanes, or THMs, due to its huge micropore volume.

By electrochemically converting dissolved chlorine gas to water-soluble chloride ions, a high-purity copper-zinc redox medium consistently removes 99% of free chlorine.
KDF process medium removes up to 95% of the chlorine in municipal water treatment and can be used in addition to or instead of activated carbon filters. Granular activated carbon pretreated with KDF media prolongs its life and inhibits bacterial growth in the bed.
KDF Process Media are used in a range of primary water treatment, wastewater treatment, and pretreatment procedures. Typically, they are used in place of or in addition to granular activated carbon filters, carbon block filters, and inline filters. Granular activated carbon’s (GAC) lifespan is prolonged by KDF water filter media, which also shields the carbon bed against bacterial development.
