Description
Sediment is the enemy of every filtration system downstream of it. Sand, rust flakes, and silt don’t just make water look cloudy — they clog carbon filters, coat bone char media, and wear down control valves faster than they should. This sediment pre-filter kit solves that by catching sediment first, before it ever reaches your main system.
Why a Sediment Pre-Filter Matters
Most whole house filtration systems — whether carbon, bone char, KDF, or a softener resin bed — aren’t designed to handle heavy sediment loads on their own. When sediment builds up inside those systems, it reduces flow rate, shortens filter or media life, and can force more frequent (and more expensive) replacements. Installing this sediment pre-filter ahead of your main system means the sediment gets trapped early, in a filter that’s specifically built for that job and easy to swap out.
This is exactly the kind of add-on we recommend pairing with bone char fluoride systems, Birm iron filters, and calcite neutralizers — anywhere sediment could otherwise shorten the life of more expensive downstream media.
How It Works
Water enters the housing and passes through a replaceable cartridge that mechanically filters down to 5 microns — fine enough to catch sand, silt, rust particles, and other suspended solids. Once that sediment is removed here, it can’t travel further into your system and clog your main filter or media bed, which keeps your water flow consistent and protects the service life of whatever comes after it.
What’s Included
- 4.5″x10″ water filter housing with 1″ pressure relief port
- Single mounting bracket
- Housing wrench
Note: This kit includes the housing only. A 5-micron sediment filter cartridge is required and sold separately unless otherwise noted at checkout.

Who This Is For
- Anyone installing a bone char, Birm, or calcite whole house system who wants to protect that media from sediment fouling
- Well water households with visible sediment, sand, or rust in their water supply
- Homeowners wanting to extend the life of an existing whole house filter or softener without upgrading the whole system
Add a simple, effective first line of defense — protect what you’ve already invested in downstream.
