The use of bone char or bone charcoal has been reported to be an effective means of reducing fluoride. Bone char contains a carbon structure while supporting a porous hydroxyapatite matrix (a calcium phosphate hydroxide in crystalline form that is rich in surface ions that can be easily replaced by fluoride ions). Adsorption and ion exchange are believed to be the mechanism for fluoride reduction in bone charring. This filter also works like regular carbon. A whole-house filter system treats all water coming to any faucet or fixture in the home. It removes the chemical before it can be ingested, inhaled or absorbed by the skin during washing or bathing. A larger carbon filter like this provides better filtration due to the amount of carbon and the depth of the filter bed. How long does it last?
